Unveiling the 1,300-Year History of Hakusan Faith
Hakusan Faith is a spiritual tradition that reveres Mount Hakusan as the ultimate source of water and life, cherishing a humble state of mind in the presence of nature. Since ancient times, Mount Hakusan has given birth to numerous rivers, sustaining the lives of those at its foothills. In deep gratitude and reverence for this bounty, people have long treated the journey along the mountain paths as a sacred practice to purify and realign the spirit. This tradition flourished extensively from the medieval period (Kamakura to Muromachi eras) into the early modern era (Edo period). Historically, Hakusan Faith featured three primary gateways—known as the Sanbaba—serving as basecamps for pilgrims ascending the sacred peak: Echizen, Kaga, and Mino (Gujo). The Mino Gateway (Mino-baba), located near present-day Shirotori Town in Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture, was far more than a mere trailhead; it was a vital sanctuary deeply intertwined with Shugendo (mountain asceticism). We invite you to embark on a transformative journey and retrace the footsteps of this ancient pilgrimage road.

Clarifying the Mind with Every Step
〜Trekking to Amidaga-taki Waterfall〜
The path leading to Amidaga-taki Waterfall still carries the spiritual residue of ancient ascetics who journeyed toward Mount Hakusan. As you walk alongside the soothing melody of the pristine stream, the clutter of daily thoughts begins to gently unravel. Standing before the majestic waterfall, the thunderous roar of cascading water and the cool embrace of the mist envelop your entire being, making you feel as though nature itself is washing away your worries and restoring your inner peace. It is here that you will touch the very core of Hakusan Devotion, the profound realization that before the grandeur of nature, one needs only to be completely authentic and true to oneself.
